Event: Sahra Hersi, Stories and Symbols as Tools for Making (CPD Session) at Charleston House, Sussex

Join artist and educator Sahra Hersi for a free CPD (continuing professional development) session.

Connected to our Reimagine project, a creative learning programme developed with Year 9 students from Priory School in Lewes, this session is open to all educators and practitioners interested in creative learning, including teachers, youth workers, social workers, artists and home educators.

Sahra will share an insight into her practice, which uses stories, motifs and symbols as tools for collective making. Her work begins with conversations and time spent with people and places, translating individual ideas and experiences into shared artworks.

Sahra will lead a practical collage activity exploring the idea of an animal as a personal symbol or ‘familiar’, representing companionship, protection or something more personal. Using a limited palette of coloured paper, participants will create individual animal motifs before bringing them together as one collective tile panel. Through cutting, collage and composition, you will explore an accessible approach to collaboration that can be adapted for use with young people in educational and community settings.
