Inaugural ENSFR conference: ‘Reading Short Fiction in Transnational Contexts’
School of English, University of Dublin, Trinity College School of English, Drama, and Film, University College Dublin – April 17-18, 2015
Conference organisers Philip Coleman https://www.tcd.ie/English/staff/academic-staff/philip-coleman.php and Clare Hayes-Brady http://www.ucd.ie/research/people/englishdramafilm/drclarehayes-brady/.
Much scholarly work has been done in recent years on the idea of transnationalism in literary studies, but the extent to which the term relates to works of short fiction has not yet received sustained scrutiny. The conference aimed to address this scholarly lacuna. Selected papers were published in the double-issue Short Fiction in Theory & Practice 5.1/2, https://www.intellectbooks.co.uk/journals/view-Journal,id=196/ guest-edited and with an introduction by Clare Hayes-Brady and Philip Coleman. The conference also included an evening of short story readings at the Irish Writers Centre in Dublin, https://irishwriterscentre.ie/ featuring Evelyn Conlon, Ailsa Cox, Dave Lordan, Thomas Morris, Nuala Ní Chonchúir, Mary O’Donnell.
